The Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, or CPPCC, meets today and Tuesday, and then on Wednesday the National People's Congress , which will confirm lots of new appointments. In the context of all this there is a lot of looking forward - to the Olympics especially. And a lot of radical changes happening. The Beijing Review articles herald major changes in law; there will be many more non-Communists in major posts (only 40% of CPPCC is communist party reps); and note the article about religion playing a part in promoting social harmony. The Archbishop of Canterbury addessed that in a sermon ( Sermon preached at Chaoyang Church, Beijing ) and at a press conference ( ABC press conference in beijing) in late 2006 that was front page news in the press.
These are genuine changes. Pray for Giod to bless China as it walks this way.
