Voted “the crappest town in the UK” in 2004, (the wikipedia article is here) and recently lambasted by the Sun newspaper after the murder of one of our police, Luton is popularly known for Islamic fundamentalism, a dreary landscape, a bad university, M1 Junction 10 and its airport – the quickest ways out! “You mean, you moved from Harpenden to Luton?” has been heard more than once as we changed our address.
But the reality is different! Not always, but there is a lot of hope. Posts of Life in Luton are here.
Working with others, we are seeking to live out and work out peace in our home town and in the church of which we are a part. We believe that is an important part of our call as Christians.
We are starting by seeking to work out that peace in our church community St Mary's, Luton's "black and white church", - right in the centre of town between the university and the Arndale Mall. For blog posts on peacemaking and reconciliation in the church see St Mary's Luton. And for some of the wider thinking about a church that makes peace you can follow this link and check out posts on that subject.
There is more on Multicultural Luton on this page. We are aware that in addition to Current Affairs Issues that have ramifications where people from around the world live side by side, often struugling to live here legally (see here for posts on Immigration) we also have to be honest about the Legacy of Empire.

We are seeking to build good relations with people of other faiths. You can rewad about our approach on the page on Interfaith Relations in Luton. There are posts on Christian Muslim relations here, Multicultural UK here and generally on Dialogue here.
